Pathology of the heart and the cardiac conduction system in Wegener's granulomatosis.

چکیده
Two cases of Wegener's granulomatosis occurred in two women aged 53 and 67 years. The clinical course in both was of rapid deterioration resulting from renal failure and leading to death. At necropsy both cases showed severe and disseminated necrotising granulomatosis in the lungs, kidneys, and spleen but with variable degrees of cardiac and systemic vasculitis. One patient, with appreciable cardiac damage, developed a P wave abnormality due to atrial disease. In patients with Wegener's granulomatosis damage to the heart should be suspected and signs of conduction system abnormalities looked for on the electrocardiogram.

متن کاملAortic valvulitis complicating Wegener's granulomatosis.
In a case of Wegener's granulomatosis aortic valve replacement was performed for worsening congestive cardiac failure secondary to aortic incompetence. Two paravalvular lesions and an isolated intraleaflet deficiency of the non-coronary cusp were identified at operation. Histological changes were consistent with a connective tissue disease.
متن کاملWegener's granulomatosis and the heart.
Three cases of Wegener's granulomatosis with cardiac complications are described and the relevant published reports are reviewed. The first case of Wegener's granulomatosis was associated with aortic regurgitation and required aortic valve replacement. The second and third cases were associated with pericardial disease requiring pericardiectomy for constructive pericarditis in one case, and hae...
متن کاملBreast involvement in Wegener's granulomatosis.
Two cases of Wegener's granulomatosis are described in which the early and predominating lesions were found in the breast. The histological features of breast necrosis with granulomatous inflammation and widespread vasculitis in the breast in the absence of any demonstrable pathogens enabled a presumptive diagnosis to be made in one case before the development of the more characteristic clinica...
متن کاملMyocardial Ischemia in Wegener’s Granulomatosis: Coronary Atherosclerosis Versus Vasculitis
Wegener's granulomatosis (WG) is one of the most common small- and medium-sized necrotizing vasculitides that mainly affects the upper and lower respiratory tract and the kidneys. Cardiac manifestations in WG are relatively rare, and their role and place among different causes of mortality remain largely unknown. Substantially increased number of reports describing involvement of all structures...
